Water Festival (Bonn Om Touk)
Bon Om Tuk or Water Festival is a traditional celebration that dates back to the Khmer Empire and reign of King Jayavarman VII.The Water Festival essentially marks the end of the monsoon and also a bountiful rice season, the reversal of the Tonle Sap current, and the start of the fishing season, with boats races, water rituals, and celebrations.
Here in Siem Reap throngs come out to see the boat races with a multitude of stalls selling all type of food and merchandise on offer. In the evening there are plenty of places to dance as there are sound systems set up all along the river banks.
